The Gambia faces South Sudan in Thies on June 4

The Gambia Football Federation(GFF) says that the Gambia will take on South Sudan in the 2023 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations home leg qualifier on Saturday 4th June 2022 at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies, Senegal. GFF announced on its social media handle that its delegation went to Senegal to make logistical arrangements for the game. The GFF team met the Senegalese Minister of Sports and the Stadium Management to discuss elements of the organisation of the match. These include security, protocols, and spectator entrance on the match day. GFF says the reason for the Gambia playing in Thies instead of the much-fancied Stade Abdoulaye wade stadium is because the Terranga Lions will be playing at their den on the same day.

Gambia To Battle With Congo And Others In AFCON Qualifiers

The Scorpions of the Gambia will face former champions Congo, Mali and South Sudan in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This came after the Scorpions were drawn in Group G with the three nations during the draw in Johannesburg. This will be a battle for the Scorpions to fight for a return to the AFCON after finishing as a quarter-finalist in their maiden AFCON campaign in Cameroon 2021.Many considered this a fair draw for the Scorpions. Congo who are the only former title winners in 1972, last played the AFCON in 2015 where they finished as a quarter-finalist, South Sudan never qualified and Mali the side with more AFCON appearances (12) in the group never win the AFCON title. The Scorpions will play their first two games in June when the windows open for the qualifiers for Ivory Coast 2023 to start.

Delayed But Not Denied, GFF Ultimately Brings Joy In Brikama & Banjul

A promise by the Gambia Football Federation [GFF] that was supposed to last for months but took almost two years, was ultimately fulfilled as the GFF deliver its promise to change the turf in Brikama and Banjul mini stadiums. For these footballing communities, this was long overdue and ultimately they smiled as football is on the verge of returning home. The two communities have endured the agony of playing home games away, a lack of "Nawettan" - Summer Championship, and a complete loss of revenue which greatly hampered the growth of the games in the area.  Now that there is hope on the horizon, this can bring along relief not only for Brikama and Banjul but for the many teams who can use the ground to play their league games. And even the pickpocketers within Brikama will rejoice that crowding will soon star at the popular arena, for them an opportunity to practice their defacto profession. I had a personal experience with them, when they stole my only D200 from my pocket around 2012 when Brikama play Esperance Sportive De Tunis, I was nearly left stranded as that was supposed to be my fare back home - laugh. Indications are there that the delay is now history as the scotching of the synthetic artificial turf in both Brikama and Banjul nears completion, while the expansion of dressing rooms and the stands and also the construction of spectators' toilets are also ongoing. BUT WHAT HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DELAY? We tried to independently find out from Bakary K. Jammeh the project manager of the GFF but our efforts were futile. As per the information we received from Sports Administrators from both Brikama and Banjul was a "lack of funds". Logically, that's right. If the Federation has not mismanaged the funds for the projects or diverted them to somewhere else, the story of these grounds would have been different. Reports indicate that the money spent on the project is from the AFCON bonuses recently given to the Gambia by CAF. Whatever the case, the refurbishment of the two grounds is delayed but not denied.

GFF signs contracts to install artificial turfs in Banjul and Brikama

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has announced that it has signed contracts with two Senegalese firms, Dasl Batiment eL Services (DABS) and Newman International, for the installation of artificial turf pitches in Banjul and Brikama mini stadiums. The announcement was made on its Facebook page. The contracts GFF says were signed on Tuesday 12th April 2022 at GFF Secretariat in Kanifing presided over by the President of the GFF, Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo. The football authorities have come under fire from the football fraternity after failing to deliver on their promise to renovate pitches in at least three locations. GFF has always denied diverting the funds meant for those projects. With one of his key allies Sadibu kamaso announcing his intention to run for GFF President, Mr, Bajo can use this development to fend off his critics.
