Mboran Shocks Amical in a Minute Bout

Mboran needed just 1 minute 12 seconds to overpowered Amical of Club Roots in grand combat held on Sunday at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium. The event was organised by TMT Entertainment Promotion.The Club Mara prodigy recorded his 4th successive victory in the arena since losing to Soldaru Bai to win the Flag named after Halima Creations.Elsewhere, in the earlier bouts (freestyle), Nyaw Ngemba of Club Jeff Jel defeated Bebe Euma of Club Tysinger Family. Bebe John of Club Terminal Mbolo drew with Lebou Ndoye of Bakau Gom Sa Bopa while Buga Dem of Tallinding Japoo earned his victory over Police Boy of Club Feke Ma Si Boleh through warning at the end of regular time.Meanwhile, in wrestling with boxing locally called "Boureh Dorr", Reug Reug of Club Sukutankulu needed just 41 seconds to record his second in a row victory against debutante Taw Feh of Club Bala Family. Move Up Soldier of Ebo Town Mbolo defeated Del Tew of Club Serekunda Gom Sa Rew to earn his first victory while Ndigal Faal of Banjul Japoo continued his winning run with a victory over Bebe Koloban of Tallinding Mbolo.Elsewhere, Gomal of Serekunda Mbolo knocked out Bagbo of Abuko Mbolo in 49 Seconds.  Arobas of Club Barra defeated Bebe Bala of Club Jabang Mbolo while Etoil of Nema Saku Ham Ham defeated Gas of Yundum Mbolo in 33 Seconds.Meless of Club Jabang Mbolo and Ama of Club Kerr Serign Mbolo battle it out in what many believed to be the combat of the season. The young wrestlers traded blows for much of the contest that lasted 17 minutes with Ama eventually carrying the day. The event was attended by hundreds of fans and wrestling enthusiasts, government officials, and the President of Gambia Wrestling Association.

Dr. Njogu Bah is new President of Swimming Association

The Gambia Swimming and Aquatic Sports Association has elected Dr. Njogou Lamin Bah president at its Elective General Assembly. . He succeeds Ms. Bintou Touray Huma, whose term ended after the Olympic Games 2020. Dr. Bah will serve a four-year mandate ending in 2026In his acceptance speech, Dr. Bah thanked the delegates for their trust in electing him as president and promised to do his best to live up to expectations. Bah said his tenure as a president will focus on aligning the Association's strategic goals to FINA and work towards reforming the Association in terms of governance, capacity building, and the increase of athletes' rights and women participation. He acknowledged the challenges ahead of the new executive in promoting grassroots sports development, addressing the lack of standard infrastructure, and the need for more qualified judges, coaches, and referees.  He promised to deliver a national structure that would provide an opportunity for all. Dr Bah said his leadership would strengthen the involvement of women in all critical areas of decision-making of the Association, and empower the Women Committee of the Association through outreach and sensitization. Gambia Wrestling Association Concludes Two-Day Capacity Building for Wrestling Technicians at Farafenni.

Thirty wrestling technicians underwent a two day training programme aimed at enhancing their knowledge of the sport. The programme, organised by Gambia Wrestling Association, targeted participants across the country to develop their skills to better understand the traditional sport. Mr Abdoulie Bojang the Desk Officer for Wrestling at the National Sports Council, said the training was timely and urged  participants to transmit the knowledge gained at their colleagues.Course Instructor Abdou Badji, implored on the participants to be different technicians went they returned back to their respective regions. The training is part of the EU funded project "promoting investment in Culture, Creative Arts and Traditional Sports to enhance Resilience against Climate Change in Local Communities".

Week Three of the 2021/2022 Volleyball

2021/2022 Gambia National Volleyball league season is in week three with games played across 5 avenues across the country. Gamtel/Gamcel, Police, and GAF were the biggest winners with both clubs winning both their male and female games.On Friday, Prisons female team beat Hamza in straight sets, Hamza still young in the top flight could not stop the prison's side that still cannot get a respectable hold either in the top tier. Waa Banjul was also on a winning way after their 3-0 victory over Hamza. This is Waa Banjul’s first year in the league but seems they are getting a strong foot thus far.Meanwhile on Saturday, defending champions olympafrica beat Brikama male team at box bar. The 3-0 thumping against the Western outfit from the reigning champions had given the latter a breathing space in the summit. Olympafrica female team failed to win away as Brikama stop the side with a resounding 3 straight sets triumph. Police male and female teams all emerged as winners in the respective categories against GFRS. At the fajara barracks, the police team did not give a chance to a Fire Service struggling side as they went home with the three points.On Sunday, Gamtel/Gamtel visited YMCA to play with one of the League’s rejuvenate sides, YMCA. The telecom giants came from 2 sets down to pull a shock in a 3-2 win. The comeback was led by Amadou Jarju who continues to lead an inspired Gamtel/Gamcel side. The ladies from the Old Jeshwang end also registered a straight 3-0 victory against the host to complete the week on a high note.

Hawks secures number two in the GFF league

In the GFF first division league, Hawks thrashed Wallidan 4-0 and moved into second place on the league table.  The Biko - Elite game ended in a one-all draw while Samger put a lone goal past Team Rhino in another encounter.

Bakoteh wins Secondary School Athletics Championship

Bakoteh Upper and the Senior Secondary School has won Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association’s National Inter-Schools Athletics Championship. This is Bakoteh’s first ever triumph in the Senior Secondary Schools Athletics Championship.  They scored 365point leading their closest rivals by 181 points. They received a trophy and a hundred thousand dalasi cash prize.Charles Jow in second place got Fifty thousand Dalasi and St Michael in 3rd received Twenty Five thousand Dalasi.  Essau Senior finished 4th, Brikama Upper and Senior Secondary 5th while Muslim High finished 6th position. This year’s athletic championship was marred by controversy when over a dozen schools were expelled from the competition.  Among them was the defending champions Bottrop Senior secondary school, who were aiming for a sixth consecutive title.

Scorpions arrive in Cameroon

The first batch of Scorpions arrived in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on Monday ahead of the first leg of Gambia's 2023 Total Energies African Cup of Nations preliminaries. The Gambia takes on  Chad on Wednesday at 4 pm Gambian time.Coach Tom Saintfiet and a host of Players have arrived in Yaoundé.Captain Omar Colley will miss the first leg due to an injury he sustained in Sampdoria’s 2-0 defeat to Venezia. He is expected to be fit for the second leg in a week’s time in Agadir, Morocco.

National School Athletics Championship Starts

 The National School Athletics Championship kicked off at the Independence Stadium where 44 Senior Schools and 19 Upper Basic Schools from across the country converged to compete in different track and field events. Day one saw some intriguing races in the 100 and 200 meters among other middle distance events with Latrikunda Sabiji and Bakoteh Senior dominating most events. This championship comes with a lot of excitement, massive crowds, and unstopping ambiance as hundreds of jubilant supports turned up to cheer behind their respective schools. This year's championship is being competed without defending champions Bottrop and some strong competitors like Scan Aid, New Covenant, and Nusrat all of whom are suspended for rule violations.  This means a shift in power as the title could sway in another direction with Latrikunda Sabiji Upper Basic School and Bakoteh Senior Secondary School putting up dominant displays on day one of the athletics championships.

Wrestling Coaches and Technician to undergo training

Thirty Regional Coaches and Wrestling Technicians will undergo a two-day training programme in Farafenni North Bank region from Tuesday 15th March. The capacity building program organised by the Gambia Wrestling Association will bring together participants representing a variety of technical entrepreneurs in traditional sports from the seven administrative Regions.The sessions will introduce participants to the history of wrestling, and train them on Technical coaching, management of the Sport, and its tactical psychology. The workshop is supported by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce (GCCI) under its project "promoting investment in Culture, Creative Arts and Traditional Sports to enhance Resilience against Climate Change in Local Communities". It is organised in partnership with Gaye Njorro Foundation and The Gambia Wrestling Association. The Farafeni Workshop will be the third this year organized by the Serign Modou Faye led Executive. Similar workshops were held in Basse, URR, and earlier this year at the GCCI Hall.

Bottrop reacts to expulsion and asks for proofs

Bottrop senior secondary school has strongly rejected the decision of the Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSSA) to ban them from this year’s National championship. GSSSA recently expelled Bottrop and over a dozen other schools for cheating in the regional championships. Mr. Martin Gomez, Principle of Bottrop and life President of GSSSA challenged the governing body to provide proof that his school used an ineligible athlete. The student being queried, Mr Gomez said was enrolled using his WAEC exam results of 2019 from Presentation of Mary Basic Cycle and was since a student of Bottrop. As time was running out, Mr. Gomez called on GSSSA to reinstate his school, failing which he said, the school would seek justice.  The fifth time champions also felt that the school was unfairly targeted due to its unprecedented success in the athletics championship. Mr. Fa Kebba Saine, sports master at Bottrop, accused the Secretary General of GSSSA of unfairly targeting Bottrop on a number of occasions. He cited examples in the secondary school football competitions when he claimed Bottrop was disqualified on two occasions for unjustifiable reasons.

School Sports Bans Thirteen Schools

The Secondary School Sports Association has expelled Bottrop Senior Secondary School and twelve other schools from participating in the March, 2022 National Schools Athletics Championship.  at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. Schools sports authorities accused Bottrop and other schools of using ineligible athletes in the Regional Championships which are the qualifiers for the National Championship. The schools were alleged to have students either outside the school system or students whose transfers to other schools were questionable.  The string of Schools suspended include Mahaad, Saint Peter's, Mingdaw,  Jamisa, New Covenant, Kafuta, Jamburr and Jambanjelly.  Ismaila Ceesay, president of the School Sports Association said several other schools are being investigated for similar offences. The schools under scrutiny are Bakoteh, Nemasu, Kotu, Bansang, St. Michael and Farafenni. Mr Ceesay stressed that any school found to have broken the rules will be expelled. Bottrop who were expected to put up a strong defence to their title were disappointed with the decision. Sources close to affected schools indicate that the school sports officials were heavy handed in their decision. The school sports associations had warned schools during the regional championships to desist from using ineligible athletes and threaten to expel any school that broke the rules.

Jordan does the double over Robel

Jordan wins the clarification bout against Robel in a battle that saw no one touch ground. The win came after two infringement calls against Robel for leaving the designated circle of contest. The two men sized up in a packed full Serrekunda west mini stadium which saw Jordan making the most attacks. Robel committed two infringements in the first ten minutes. The challenger was on the back foot right from the beginning and didn’t want to take any risk. After leading the contest by two points as a result of the infringements, Jordan tactically waited for Robel to make a move. Robel however made very little effort in the second half to overturn the advantage and Jordan was declared winner on points.In the undercard bouts, Dugureychu defeated Confiyans, Dolima defeated Euma Saine and Sora lost to France 2

Real De Banjul Smash GAF 3 - 1 to Stay Top Of GFF League

Real De Banjul showed a superior performance to put three goals past the Gambia Armed Forces in week ten of the Gambia Football Federation male division one league. The deserved victory kept them on top with 21 points. Having settled the quickest, Real were well worth their lead as they put in a performance that was assured and confident, both in defence and in attack. The soldiers have no answers to Real's attacking prowess as they conceded three goals within 11 minutes. Modou Lamin Demba first controlled and fired home from a Salifu Colley pass just after 3 minutes to put Real in front.  That goal destabilised Armed Forces defence as they conceded two penalties. First, it was a foul on Modou Lamin Demba on the 6th minute and Babucarr Jallow perfectly converted from the spot to make it 2 - 0. Modou Lamin Demba then won another penalty on the 11th minute and converted it himself to complete a brace and put Real three goals up.  Even though Armed Forces pulled one back and tried to make the score line a bit pleasing, it was still embarrassing. Real ran away with a 3 - 1 win, moving them four points clear off second place Waa Banjul who played a game less. Falcons missed the chance to temporarily move to the top of the table but sat fourth on the table levelled on points with Waa Banjul and Wallidan in 2nd and 3rd respectively. They were held to a one all draw by Marimoo in Yundum.
